I guess it says quite a bit from the title how I was feeling on Thursday as I catwalked at Startup Asia 2014. It was my first time walking for a fashion show, despite it being just a small part of the entire Startup Asia programme that lasted for 2 days at Biopolis, Buona Vista. I used to model for photoshoots with some photographer friends but that was all until Kalai gave me the opportunity to model for her fashion module.
Not being biased or what, but the dress hand-sewn by this cute talented Indian girl is really amazing! I totally felt like a princess in it, as if I was wearing a wedding gown! Maybe cause the dress was tailored to fit me, with my measurements but the way the dress poofs up like the tutu a ballerina would wear yet not lose any sense of elegance because of its length… And it's black in colour! What other colour would I have picked to look sophisticated, elegant, grand and Coco Chanel enough?!?!
I had so much fun since the beginning, when Kalai quickly choped me to be her model, to getting my measurements done, to the fitting and wearing the actual final gown and finally modeling it down the runway after rounds of hectic rehearsals.
Could not contain my excitement the whole day even though I had to wake up at 7, prepare and get ready for the meeting with all the media and press. I can't believe I just got featured on Straits Times with my bare face! (no make up because I was waiting for the make up artist to arrive) Was the first to get my make up done and boy did I enjoy getting my make up done by professionals! It's like the best feeling ever to just sit in your chair as professionals did magic on your face and suddenly you look into the mirror, wondering if the person you're looking straight at is really you. It felt as if I woke up having teleported into the future because my get up was really so vintage-y! Thank you so much to the make up artists. And of course, who would have resisted from selfies after the transformation!
With pretty Amanda (and her pale white make up for her look) as well as the caucasian models who are like suuuuper tall and drop dead gorgeous! We then had a photoshoot in the preparation shoot, professional photographer cum designer Clifford had the equipments set up and I snagged my best shot effortlessly lol! Recalling back to what happened was hilarious, I was just fiddling around, talking and being my own annoying self when Clifford said "I think I've got the shot!" Kalai was looking at the screen of the Macbook in disbelief and my jaw dropped as well when I walked and confirmed it. It was only like within the first five shots omg.
Countdown to the fashion show was the most intense nerve wrecking experience. My heart was literally in my mouth, thumping so quickly and hard against my chest. But knowing that le boyfriend and Lansin was rooting for me amongst the audience helped a lot. I kept telling myself that I'll be able to see them once I'm out there! No worries, just walked like how I did during rehearsals! *pats myself on the shoulder for the final pose which got me appraisal from Galina, the prof teaching this module*
Seeing my loved ones after the show was a huge relief, I couldn't be more grateful for their presence. And le boyfriend couldn't be more proud of me as well haha, it's not self-complimenting okay, this is true. And since we still look compatible with me in heels, I think I can start wearing heels more often when we go out the next time round ;)
This entire experience was indeed an eye opener for me, I've learnt and gained quite a bit just by being a model itself, I'm sure Kalai picked up new things in the module too. Now we cannot wait for the upcoming Audi fashion show cause we've got free tickets! Eggcited much!
xoxo,
